Solar energy system talk

太阳能系统谈话 太阳能系统谈话 the question today is alternative energy
solar wind hydro is it right for everyone mm-hmm
I think my answer for that would be absolutely not now I’ve lived with
alternative energy for 20 years it’s had its drawbacks I’m not gonna say it’s
been perfect absolutely not I’ve had him I’ve had inverters that
were hit by lightning a couple of them knocked my system out and on the other
hand I’ve had wind that has taken out power lines and people have lost to
power for days on end and I’ve generated power from that so you know it’s it’s
it’s what it is you know you can’t say that it’s wrong or it’s right it depends
on the individual now if you live on an off-the-grid situation like I do you
need to have some sort of mechanical abilities like say I designed and built
my own tower for my turbine I set up my entire solar array I set up the hydro
diversion system I changed my complete lighting in my house because of the fact
that I have lost my inverters I learned to set up my entire house with DC LED
lighting now these lights use absolutely no power I have a trimetric meter and
these these lights I can tell exactly what each individual light uses when I
turn it on it reads on my meter and they use virtually nothing I have times when
I have so much power coming in that what I need
to do is actually run around turn on all the lights and just to burn up the power
and still losing it I have my water pump is all DC my refrigerator is DC I learn
through experience to make sure that all my components that I can have our DC so
the inverter doesn’t affect them if it gets fried or whatever and it will
happen it will happen some time or another
more than likely now if you’re a grid-tied you you might be a little bit
better off because you may not need to have as much knowledge because basically
in this day and age the company that installs it they take care of all the
needs they they will for instance they will monitor your system through the
internet and if something happens they can flag oh they’re out there their
technicians are out there to fix it now generally you don’t need batteries
absolutely not with a grid-tied system but that doesn’t necessarily mean that
gives you the independence so if the grid goes down at night you may not have
any power yourself just like you did before but if it goes down during a day
it switches over and then what you’re selling back to the grid will come back
into your control and you will be living off that while the rest of the
neighborhood has no power so you got your benefits there there’s many many
pros and cons I like being totally independent from the grid I know it cost
me to maintain batteries I had twenty four two volt lead acid batteries which
served me very well for 15 years they finally died I mean they wore out I
replaced them with two – only two with the ion batteries now these batteries
are spectacular I you know there isn’t even a comparison to them they take a
third of the time to charge I can run them down 80% and backup no flaws it
doesn’t hurt him at all of that acid they you got 50% and it takes 8 hours at
least to recharge them so you actually by changing and switching over the
batteries you will actually get more out of your solar or your solar wind system
your hybrid system it’s amazing I gotta tell you you know I thrilled with my
little eye on batteries now I bought my batteries through battleborn batteries
excellent batteries and a great service the people are great they’re so you know
I’m gonna say they’re they’re a good place to do business with and I will do
business with them again but you know basically I’m never without power never
one way or the other because even if I lose my inverters now I have my lighting
refrigeration water these are the big pluses absolutely you don’t want to fry
an inverter and lose all your food in your freezer do you now or whatever you
know and that can happen with a grid-tied system say you’re you’re at
night and power goes out and it’s good if you have a good freezer of course
it’s gonna it’s gonna hold the coals long she’ll keep the door shut you don’t
get foolish leaving the door open or whatever but the basic basic setup is
that you need to keep yourself as independent as possible
I moved my breaker boxes I have DC breaker box and I have an AC breaker box
now what I did was i centralized these components in my basement so what they
can do now I have DC wall plugs and AC wall plugs clearly marked so you don’t
make a mistake obviously but if if my inverter is gone
I can run DC components which you can buy if you keep your system at 12 volt
like I have you can run off the shelf say maybe even like truck stop
components you can run them in your kitchen you can run them any time
without having to turn an inverter on and by centralizing my breaker I power
control panel down in my cellar I can I can keep the same wire I don’t
need to have extra heavy-duty wire because I don’t have to run great
distances with my DC power and get losses so by doing this I am able to
keep a good situation even to my upstairs my pantry is DC lighting my
kitchen is DC everything all my house there’s no AC lighting in the house
except over my stove my range that the hood that is AC lighting because that’s
how it comes you know I didn’t switch that over but I rarely use it I used it
the other day I had them on basically because I needed to burn up some power I
had way more than I needed coming in and my shed is a great distance so I needed
to run DC line out there would have cost me about $600 I would have had to run at
least 2 watt cable by running Acey out there I could run standard
underground cable and I have wall plugs I have receptacles wall plugs
receptacles and I have regular AC lighting that I removed from the kitchen
that was there and I put them in the shed so now my shed has all DC line I
can run drills power saws compressor I can run pretty much
anything I want to run off AC in my shed I can kateri charge through the winter
yeah it’s great it’s really nice but in the house and my barn because I have my
solar array on my barn roof I did run the two I cable from the barn to the
cellar into the house so I get virtually no loss in power from that size cable
but in return because I could do that because I did that I have DC lighting in
my barn so I don’t need I can go into the barn the lights come on and they use
absolutely no power basically there are you know my meters are up there upstairs
in a bar and it reads what’s coming in and I’m really pretty set on that so
it’s you know it’s an individual thing here running alternative energy is
certainly an individual thing and it is not for everyone
absolutely not you do have to watch what you burn you do have to maintain your
batteries not so much with the lithium as you did with the lead acid lead acid
batteries they required a lot of maintenance they required a special
ventilated box because they put out fumes which was not good for you and
then let a listen excuse me no with the ion they’re sweet they don’t generate
the heat they don’t put out the bad fumes
they’re phenomenal he’s actually compared to what I had
with a lead-acid although I have a ventilated box in the cellar because I
needed it for the lead acid batteries I lift the ion batteries are enclosed in
this insulated box which makes them stay nice and warm throughout the winter the
maintenance on them is pretty much zero it’s it’s actually sweet it’s actually
sweet yeah alternative energy is is certainly not
for everyone but it is for me I love it
