Golden Apple: Solar Schools Project Officially Completed

ACTUAL GAME.>>A.J.: ALL THE SEASONS ARE COMBINING INTO ONE.>>Dennis: THE OFFICIAL COMPLETION OF A PROJECT LONG IN THE WORKS AT THREE SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN THE AREA WAS CELEBRATED TODAY. THE SOLAR SCHOOLS PROJECT INSTALLED SIX SOLAR ARRAYS AT THE PINE RIVER-BACKUS AND PEQUOT LAKES SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE. FOR THIS WEEK’S GOLDEN APPLE, RACHEL JOHNSON TAKES US TO THE RIBBON CUTTING FOR THE MAJOR PROJECT.>>THIS WAS OUR TURN TO BE COURAGEOUS.>>Rachel: SEVEN YEARS AGO A GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS HAD A DREAM, TO MAKE SOLAR AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS NO MATTER THE LOCATION OR DEMOGRAPHIC.>>YEARS AGO WE SAT DOWN TO BEGIN A CONVERSATION HOW WE COULD INTRODUCE SOLAR AND HELP SCHOOLS REDUCE THEIR OPERATING COSTS.>>Rachel: THIS YEAR THAT DREAM BECAME A REALITY AND AFTER A LONG PROCESS THEY CELEBRATED THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT.>>IT’S A SURREAL DAY TO BE WITH ALL OF THESE FABULOUS PARTNERS AND HAVE THE SOLAR ARRAYS BEHIND US BECAUSE IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING.>>Rachel: THE PROGRAM SAW A TOTAL OF SIX ARRAYS.>>THE TEAM PUT IN A LOT OF ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND EVERY LITTLE ASPECT OF THE INSTALLATION. I’VE SEEN A LOT OF PROJECTS THROUGH ALL THE DIFFERENT STATES I’VE BEEN TO AND ALL THE STATES I’VE WORKED IN, AND THIS ONE STUCK OUT. >>Rachel: IT WAS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE REGIONAL 5 DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION AND MUNICIPAL OTHER COMPANIES.>>THIS PROJECT IS A BIG COMPLEX PROJECT WITH MANY PARTNERS AND SITES. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT IN THE STATE.>>WHAT WE’VE KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME IN THIS REGION THERE IS A SENSE OF COMING TOGETHER AND COLLABORATING AND BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS. THIS IS AN ILLUSTRATION OF THAT.>>Rachel: IN ADDITION TO THE COST SAVINGS THE SOLAR PANELS WILL BRING TO THE DISTRICTS, THE SOLAR WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO THE CURRICULUM AND PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE STUDENTS. >>WE’RE VERY EXCITED THAT OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THESE SYSTEMS NOT ONLY TO SAVE THE SCHOOLS MONEY, BUT AS EDUCATIONAL ASSETS. >>Rachel: THE PARTNERSHIP AND THE HARD WORK THAT MADE SOLAR SCHOOLS A REALITY, SHOWS THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE ACCESS TO SOLAR ENERGY EVEN IN RURAL
